Founder’s Note

From the Founders

We started K!NFOLK because we wanted alternative Black people to have somewhere to find each other beyond algorithms and timelines. A club where all of our interests, perspectives, knowledge, creativity, and general weirdness can exist without having to fit into one idea of what Black community should look like.

Our recent pivot gave us a chance to get back to that goal and be much more intentional about who we build the club with. We’re not trying to pack the place. We’d much rather fill it with interesting, informed, curious people who want to be here. People who have something to share, something to teach, something to talk about, or who simply want to know the people around them.

A conversation could turn into a friendship, a shared interest could become a local meetup or club outing, or someone could bring an idea that turns into a new club tradition; those possibilities are a big part of what makes this space worth building for us, and we hope, worth being part of for you.

There’s a lot of room for K!NFOLK to become more, and we don’t want to decide all of that on our own. We’re excited to see who finds us, what you bring with you, and what we can make of this club together.

About

Our Mission & Purpose

Not every space is for everybody.

Culture and community don’t survive by accident–they endure because people actively pass them along.

K!NFOLK is a private, adults-only, Discord social club for alternative Black people who live at the intersection of Blackness and counterculture.

We aren’t collecting members or building another server to endlessly scroll through. We’re building an intentional network of people who know their subcultures, think critically, and want more than passive conversation.

This is a space for people who create, organize, share resources, and open doors in whatever way they can. We value vulnerability, curiosity, cultural literacy, and a willingness to grow. That means showing up with intention, sharing what you know, and engaging in respectful, good-faith dialogue that leads to deeper relationships and stronger ideas. We take this space seriously because we take each other seriously–no matter your age, gender, education level, or niche interests.

Black culture has always evolved through exchange. We believe knowledge should circulate, opportunities should be shared, and community is something actively forged through time, effort, and mutual investment.

Lurkers and spectators won’t get much out of this space, but if you’re looking for meaningful relationships, ready to leave every conversation with more perspective than you brought, and prepared to contribute as much as you gain, K!NFOLK is for you.
