Founder’s Note
From the Founders
We started K!NFOLK because we wanted alternative Black people to have somewhere to find each other beyond algorithms and timelines. A club where all of our interests, perspectives, knowledge, creativity, and general weirdness can exist without having to fit into one idea of what Black community should look like.
Our recent pivot gave us a chance to get back to that goal and be much more intentional about who we build the club with. We’re not trying to pack the place. We’d much rather fill it with interesting, informed, curious people who want to be here. People who have something to share, something to teach, something to talk about, or who simply want to know the people around them.
We’ve built the framework, this entirely free, Black only experience, and now we’re looking for more people to play, build and connect within it.
A conversation could turn into a friendship. Someone’s niche interest could become the club’s next event. A new member could show up with an idea none of us have considered yet. That’s the fun of it.
There’s a lot of room for K!NFOLK to become more, and we don’t want to decide all of that on our own. We’re excited to see who finds us, what you bring with you, and what we can make of this club together.

About
Our Mission & Purpose
Not every space is for everybody.
Culture and community don’t survive by accident–they endure because people actively pass them along.
K!NFOLK is a private, adults-only, Discord social club for alternative Black people who live at the intersection of Blackness and counterculture.
We aren’t collecting members or building another server to endlessly scroll through. We’re building an intentional network of people who know their subcultures, think critically, and want more than passive conversation.
This is a space for people who create, organize, share resources, and open doors in whatever way they can. We value vulnerability, curiosity, cultural literacy, and a willingness to grow. That means showing up with intention, sharing what you know, and engaging in respectful, good-faith dialogue that leads to deeper relationships and stronger ideas. We take this space seriously because we take each other seriously–no matter your age, gender, education level, or niche interests.
Black culture has always evolved through exchange. We believe knowledge should circulate, opportunities should be shared, and community is something actively forged through time, effort, and mutual investment.
Lurkers and spectators won’t get much out of this space, but if you’re looking for meaningful relationships, ready to leave every conversation with more perspective than you brought, and prepared to contribute as much as you gain, K!NFOLK is for you.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What counts as alternative or a counterculture lifestyle?
Do you have a physical location?
- No. We are only virtual, at this time with plans for physical experiences in the future. But, if you join us and find a home here, you will be planning your own meet-ups sooner than you think.
Are there any fees?
- No. Being a member, at this time, is free. This entire effort is an act of community.
Do I have to be active?
- Yes. We do expect participation within the space. The entire objective of our social club is to make meaningful relationships, foster community and all the little things in between, which all require a level of effort on the individual's part. It only works if you do.
What does “being active” mean?
- You don't have to be on Some people are, but that's a personal choice. We've noticed that, at least popping in a couple times a week genuinely joining conversations or even attending an event or two, really helps people get to know you and you get to know others, in turn. So, unless you are active to some existent on a regular basis, you won't get the full experience of the space.
What if I can’t be active?
- If finding the time to join in is going to be difficult for you, presently, then we would recommend waiting until you do have the time to fully experience the space we have to offer.
I’m uncomfortable sharing personal information about myself (including my face), is that necessary?
- Yes, it is necessary to provide a selfie, for verification, in order to enter the space, after your application has been accepted. Once your selfie has been provided and verified, it can be deleted. We do not save or store any provided selfies for verification.
I’m not tech savvy or familiar with Discord; is that a requirement?
- Yes, it is required that you not only have an existing Discord account, but that you know how to navigate and use Discord, beyond the level of a novice. We do not mind providing tips, but we cannot guide you through using this platform.
How should we interact with staff? Can we talk to them on a personal level? How present are they?
- Our admins and volunteer staff members are incredibly active within our club, as they too, are club members. All we ask is that you’re respectful when engaging as you engage and honor their contact preferences.
I was removed from the space, why? Can I come back?
- If you were removed from our club for not completing on-boarding, prolonged inactivity, or other offenses that are against our club policies or rules, you will not be allowed re-entry.
